About MD File Viewer
MD File Viewer is a free online tool for reading Markdown files.
Drop a .md file into the page and it renders instantly — headings, tables,
code blocks, math formulas, task lists and diagrams — without installing anything
and without creating an account.
What this site is
This site is built and maintained by the MD File Viewer team. It is a static website: every page is a plain file served from a CDN, and the viewer itself runs entirely in your browser. There is no backend server processing your documents.
Why we built it
Most markdown viewers ask you to upload the file to a server first. That is fine for public notes, but not for private documents — release notes, internal specs, personal writing. We wanted a viewer where the file never has to leave your device, so that is how this one works: you open the file locally, your browser parses and renders it, and nothing is transmitted anywhere.
How it works
- The page loads once from a CDN (HTML, CSS and JavaScript).
- When you drop or paste a file, the browser reads it with the standard File API.
- Rendering happens locally using open-source libraries (marked, DOMPurify, highlight.js, KaTeX, Mermaid).
- No network request carries your document content. You can verify this in your browser's network tab — or disconnect from the internet and keep using it.
